Volunteer to help serve seniors

Do you have the gift of time? Like to work with people? Washington County Disability, Aging & Veteran Services has several volunteer-based programs looking for energetic and caring individuals. They include:

The Advisory Council — Serve as a board member by participating in advocacy efforts for seniors and veterans as well as attend regular meetings to advise Disability, Aging & Veteran Services. For more information, call Janet Long at 503-846-3081.

BEC (Benefits Enrollment Center) — Help screen home-bound individuals with low income to determine eligibility for benefits.

Project REACH (Ready to Extend a Caring Hand) — Help isolated and vulnerable seniors access and navigate resources to remain independent.

SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance) Program — Help seniors make informed choices about Medicare benefits and prescription drug coverage.

Veterans Case Aid — Provide high level administrative support to our Veteran Service coordinators in daily upkeep of claim files and appeals for the agency and assist in research projects.

Client Services Receptionist — Greet guests as they come into the department as well as make appointment reminders and perform various office tasks.
