The Portland-to-Maui nonstop daily flight begins Jan. 18 from Portland International Airport. Two other direct flights — Oakland to Kauai and Los Angeles to Kona-Kailua — also begin in January using the medium-haul, single-aisle A321neo aircraft.

"The introduction of A321neo service to the Western U.S. heralds the dawn of a new era for Hawaiian Airlines and its guests," said Peter Ingram, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Hawaiian Airlines.

Daily Portland-to-Maui flights will depart PDX at 8 a.m. and arrive on the island at about noon.

For several years, Hawaiian Airlines operated a seasonal nonstop flight from PDX to Maui using larger aircraft. That service was dropped, but will resume with the new flights in January.

"We enjoy strong demand for our PDX-to-Honolulu flights today and connect many of our guests on to other islands, most notably Maui," Ingram said. "The arrival of the A321neos allows us to serve PDX-to-Maui with the right-sized aircraft. The development of our Maui hub over the past few years for connections onward to Lihue, Kona and Hilo provides an alternative to connecting over Honolulu."
