Foster the holiday spirit
The holidays are nearly here and Mattress Firm's toy drive is seeking the community's help to ensure that local foster children have happy holidays.
While many children spend Christmas Eve eagerly anticipating Santa's arrival, youth in foster care often worry he won't be able to find them at all.
To ensure that every foster child wakes up with a present on Christmas morning, there are a few ways people can help.
For parents, encourage children to embrace the season of giving and ask them to pick out a new toy for a foster child in need.
For others, give an ugly sweater party new meaning by incorporating a donation bin. At holiday work celebrations, encourage attendees to donate a gift. Rally friends, churches, soccer teams or schools to host their own donation drives.
What's needed are new, unwrapped gifts for all ages that can be dropped off at any Mattress Firm store now through Dec. 17.
Gifts are needed for all ages from toddlers to teens. The most requested items include sporting equipment, arts and crafts supplies, dolls, super hero figurines, electronics and gift cards.
