Taylor Igarta is honored along with students from throughout the United States and around the world.

Taylor Igarta of Whitford Middle School in Beaverton has been chosen as a merit award winner in the 30th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. She was sponsored by the Beaverton club.

Approximately 600,000 children from 60 countries participated in this year's contest. The posters were judged at club, district and multiple district levels before reaching the international level, at which point they had been narrowed down to 123 posters. Based on creativity, originality and portrayal of the theme, "The Future of Peace," Taylor's entry, was chosen as one of 23 merit award winners.

Taylor will receive $500 and a certificate of merit.

The other 23 merit award winners are from Brazil, China, Cyprus, England, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Philippines, Romania and Thailand and from such states as California, Hawaii, Nevada and North Carolina.

The grand prize winner will be announced at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York City on Saturday, March 24.

Taylor is an artist and also plays in the Whitford band.
