But North Medford's best was even better.

The Black Tornado scored 10 runs in what ended up being the decisive second inning en route to posting an 11-3 win over Westview in Saturday's Class 6A state softball championship game.

Westview outscored North Medford in the other six stanzas, including two key runs with two outs in the top of the fifth that prevented the Black Tornado from winning in five innings.

With the win, North Medford claimed its first state championship since 2013 and helped wipe away memories of its title-game loss to South Salem in 2014.

North Medford finished its 2017 season with a Southwest Conference championship, an 18-game winning streak, a 30-1 record and the No. 3 ranking in the state.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, ended 2017 with a Metro League championship, a 27-5 record, wins in 10 of their final 11 games and the No. 5 ranking in the state.
