Dental Etiquette: Steps to a Positive Experience

Brought to you by Dr. Alan Neal - Neal Family Dental - FAMILY DENTISTRY INSIDER -

NEAL FAMILY DENTAL - Dr. Alan NealTrust between a dentist and his or her patients is vital to maintaining a good relationship. At Neal Family Dental, we understand that some patients may be anxious, even afraid of visiting the dentist. Our entire team is dedicated to providing a relaxed, positive environment during your visit. To help make your experience as positive as possible, follow these steps before each visit:

  • Show up 10 minutes early with brushed teeth. Eat your normal meals throughout the day, and wear comfortable clothes.
  • Schedule your appointments early, if possible; your coping skills are fully charged in the morning and you're better able to handle any stress you may be feeling.
  • Bring a typed list of medications, or bring the bottles of your prescriptions and medical conditions. Also, take your medications per your prescription; usually, there are not any interactions with local anesthetics (aka Novocaine or Lidocaine).
  • Make yourself at home! Get comfortable, feel free to nap, and we'll wake you up when we're done--.you would be surprised how many patients fall asleep in the chair week at our office!
  • Let your provider know up front what parts of the dental treatment we can make better.
  • Periodically change out your toothbrushes. Yes, we give you a free toothbrush every 6 months, but they are supposed to be replaced every 8 to 10 weeks, to maximize your brushing.
  • Call ahead if you have any new issues or changes in your mouth. Don't wait for your 6 month cleaning; any problems may become more challenging (and expensive) with more time.
