Canby Area Transit will move to new facility in the Sequoia Commerce Center to be closer to its fleet facility

Canby Area Transit's old facility on Second Ave. will be used by the city's finance department, which is in need of additional space. The Canby City Council has authorized a new home for Canby Area Transit.

An ordinance authorizing the transit agency to lease new quarters was passed earlier this month.

The city would take out a five-year lease on 1,728 square feet in the Sequoia Commerce Center at 195 S. Hazel Dell Way. The property is across Sequoia Parkway from the transit hub at the Fred Meyer store.

The base monthly rent starts at $2,918.87 the first year and increases to $3,241 by the fifth year.

CAT has been planning to relocate its offices closer to its fleet facility for years, City Administrator Greg Ellis said.

The new site will reduce deadhead costs and provide greater parking options for the CAT fleet.

Presently CAT shares a one-story city-owned building at 123 NW Second Ave. with the city finance office. Smaller CAT vehicles are parked in a lot at the rear.

The finance department and its six employees have been crowded into a small space on one side, Ellis said.

Once CAT relocates, finance will expand into the rest of the building.

Ellis expected the move to take a place about a month after the agreement is approved. The leasor will upgrade the property before CAT moves in.
