The Canby Lions Club has renamed its scholarship program for Canby High School graduating Seniors the “Wayne Oliver Memorial Scholarship.”

Club President Sue Jaggers said, “Wayne’s commitment to youth in our community was well known and we felt it appropriate to rename our scholarship program in his honor.”

Oliver was a 38-year member of the Canby Lions Club. His family helped found the club in 1951. Earl Oliver was a charter member.

“He helped start our scholarship program,” Jaggers said.

He was chairman of the Shoes for Kids program and Flags for First Graders. For the past several years he was co-chair of the club’s major fundraiser Christmas tree sales program. Jaggers said that several donations to the scholarship program have already been received from community members. The club’s address is Box 711, Canby, OR 97013.

The Lions Club will also honor Oliver with a memorial donation to the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
