by: OSP PHOTO - A 43-year old man led officers on a 30-mile chase from Canby to north of Salem where he crashed his car into a power pole.

The man tried to run from his crashed car but was captured a short distance away by a Marion County Sheriff’s Office K-9.

The chase started about 1:10 a.m. when Canby Police tried to pull over a 1998 Audi A4 four-door sedan for traffic violations.

But the driver took off south on Highway 99E, hitting speeds of 80 mph and better. The chase continued through the cities of Hubbard, Woodburn and Gervais.

Officers from those cities joined the OSP and Marion County Sheriff’s Office in the pursuit.

The Gervais Police and OSP deployed spike strips at Highway 99E and Brooklake Road NE.

The car continued south a short distance until the driver failed to negotiate a left curve and crashed into the power pole, downing power lines.

The crash downed power lines and the northbound lane of Highway 99E was closed for repairs.
