In celebration of Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day April 24, six children experienced a day in the life of a Canby public employee Thursday.

They shadowed employees, toured city facilities and visited several departments and staff members along the way.

“We put them to work,” said Jerry Nelzen, Public Works lead and father of Emma and Grace Nelzen.

Joining them were Ashley and Shelby Goetz, daughters of Chris Goetz, and Kiley and Kennedy Hester, daughters of Shane Hester.

The day’s work included assisting with locating utilities, conducting sewer main line inspections with a camera, hydro-cleaning storm lines and creating and replacing street signs.

When asked what their favorite part of the day was, the six daughters unanimously agreed that the full tour of the police facility, conducted by Officer Jeremy Holstad, topped the day’s activities.

Officially celebrated during the fourth week of April, “Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day” provides children with the opportunity to see what their parents do when they say they are going to work.
