The Canby Livability Coalition will hold its 11th Annual Cleanup Day from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 29. Volunteers will be assigned projects to help get the downtown streets and park areas cleaned up, as well as fixing up the Canby welcome sign.

Secretary of the Livability Coalition Sheila Tice encouraged people to come volunteer and “get things beautified for our summer visitors.”

While the cleanup day usually goes off well and completes all its projects, there is always room for more volunteers.

“It just gives people a good feeling to know they’re helping the city,” Tice said.

Some of the jobs don’t take too much time, she added, and it can be an event for the whole family.

“You can grab your family and bring your kids on some of the projects,” Tice said. “It kind of helps the kids learn about giving back to your community.”

The cleanup day is important because studies show that people don’t like going into areas of the city that don’t look like they have been kept up well, have trash, graffiti, or broken sidewalks, Tice said.

The Coalition has tools to lend out to their volunteers.

The Coalition has other important Canby organizations under their umbrella, including the Canby Community Garden Association and the Saturday Market. They will hold a garage sale fundraiser during the Big Weekend at the end of August.
