Police Chief Bret Smith told the Canby Herald that Colton Fraser Lindsey turned himself into "members of the Canby Police Department" on Friday, July 28 after allegedly committing a robbery at Columbia First Bank, which is located in the 'Fred Meyer' shopping center at the northeast end of town.
Lindsey's photograph was made available to the public via social media, on the Canby Herald's Facebook page and via the Canby Police's social media pages and website shortly after the alleged robbery occurred.
Smith said Lindsey's family members, after seeing his photo plastered on Facebook page Canby Now, and the Herald's Facebook page, encouraged him to turn himself in, which he did.
Lindsey was arrested without incident, Smith said.
"After Mr. Lindsey's arrest, members of the Canby Police Department served two search warrants as part of their investigative follow-up and evidence believed to be associated with the bank robbery was seized at that time," Smith told the Herald via email. "Additional search warrants are forthcoming. The FBI is working on charging him federally."
Canby Police Detective Steve Floyd and Detective Chris Scharmota are the lead investigators in this case.
Lindsey remains in custody on $500,000 bail at the Clackamas County jail on charges of robbery I and II, unlawful use of a weapon, and two charges of theft I, according to the jail's website. Lindsey's mugshot was not available.
