Canby Cares event upcoming
Twenty-three churches and organizations in the Canby area have come together to make something special happen…again.
The second Canby Cares event will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Canby Foursquare Church. But while this church is providing the facilities and doing most of the planning, the event is definitely a community-based effort, according to Joy Strube, community engagement coordinator for Canby Foursquare Church.
Canby Cares is a free community event designed to provide medical and social services for those who need them.
"It's for those who are needing medical and social services," said Strube. "We'll also have a resource fair with different organizations for people and their families to plug into for follow-up care.
"Our heart is really just to work with the community to help get the care to those who need it," she added.
The day will include dental care, vision exams, medical checkups, haircuts, a resource fair, children's clothing distribution, family portraits, a kids' zone, and breakfast and lunch.
Shuttles will run from Locust St. Park, Wait Park and Canby Adult Center every 20 minutes.
Canby Cares was originally run by The Canby Center, but went away in 2011. Canby Foursquare picked it up last year and thanks to help across the community, it's back.
"It has been so great to see how the community has gotten on-board and responded and wanted to be part of this," said Strube. "We've had amazing partners and this wouldn't work without their help and support.
