Congressman Kurt Schrader makes salary donation reflecting time spent on goverment shut down

Congressman Kurt Schrader donated his combined paycheck from the two government shutdowns this year to the Oregon Service Member Relief Fund (OSMRF) this week.

The federal government shut down twice in February for three days which accounted for a total paycheck of $1,430 for the Congressman.

State Rep. Kurt Schrader.

"I am of the belief that if you don't do your job, you shouldn't get a paycheck and this year, Congress failed to do its job not once but twice," said Rep. Schrader. "I'm glad to be able to donate my paycheck to a worthy cause like the Oregon Service Member Relief Fund. Our service men and women and our veterans, of all people, deserve better."

The OSMRF is a non-profit organization that benefits members and veterans of the Oregon National Guard, as well as their dependents, through family, wellness, and transition programs. The organization offers assistance to veterans as they transition into civilian life, as well as outreach and support to service members and their families.

Rep. Schrader similarly donated his paycheck from the 2013 shutdown to the Oregon Food Bank.
