And the verdict is in. Canby’s annual lighting contest didn’t disappoint.

“The Community Holiday Lighting judges had a great evening driving around and enjoyed all the hard work,” said Bev Doolittle, executive director, Canby Area Chamber of Commerce. “Making the effort of putting up the Christmas lights and displays is a gift to their neighbors and the families that love to adventure out and look at them.”

While out, the judges ran into a couple families at different houses as well as a group of students out on a flatbed going around caroling.

“The creativity this year is at an all time high,” said one of the judges. “It’s so great to see our community continue to show their Christmas Spirit. We hope families take advantage of a fun evening driving through our community because it makes ‘Whoville’ look boring.”

House/Yard Display

1st Place: 371 SE Ninth Ave – Rebecca Bursheim

Comments: The judges were impressed there was a lot of time and effort put into decorating this house and it shows. It’s a must see!

2nd Place: 486 S. Locust St. – Pam Carr

Comments: It’s off the road but more than worth the drive down the lane. Lots to see and enjoy.

3rd Place: 1790 N. Ponderosa St – Art Nagel

Comments: Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful…. Very classy and well done.

The judges were impressed, it is great to see neighborhood unity and participation, tons of lights and very festive. It’s outstanding and worth the drive through neighborhoods that do Christmas lights together.

North Vine Street – Vine Meadows

Township Village (SE Eighth and Ninth avenues) — had a great time listening to the trailer of carolers while we were out judging.

North Oak Street — always a fun place to spend a few minutes listen and watching the dancing trees.

2512 N. Holly, The Flower Farmer — Holy Lights Batman! This is a “Christmas Extravaganza.”

Should of – Could of – Next Year do it

“As we drove around this fine community we saw so many homes that just look spectacular and should be part of the Community Lighting Contest,” said Doolittle. “Here are a few we hope will enter next year. Take the time to drive past these also. Merry Christmas and thank you for letting us enjoy the 2013 Community Lighting Contest.”
