The OSU Extension Service and the Clackamas County Farm Forestry Association will hold a workshop on managing woodland roads on Thursday, June 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hopkins Demonstration Forest east of Canby.

Participants will use the “Managing Woodland Roads Field Guide” in a field workshop including a live roadwork demonstration on ditches and culverts. The workshop is for woodland owners and managers.

The program will be led by Hopkins Forest educator Peter Matzka and OSU Extension forester Steve Bowers, co-author of the “Managing Woodland Roads Field Guide.”

Topics participants will learn about include:

Roadbed and road surface design and maintenance.

  • Stream crossings, culverts, and ditches.
  • Inspection maintenance and repair.
  • Wet-weather operations.
  • Coffee and refreshments will be provided. Dress for a field day (rain or shine) and take a lunch. There is a $15 registration fee. A copy of the “Managing Woodland Roads Field Guide” is included with registration.
