Design committee submits three school names

The design committee for the new elementary school in Crook County has submitted three school names for consideration by the school board at its next meeting, scheduled to take place at the Paulina Elementary School, 70050 S.E. Paulina City Rd, on April 21 at 6:30 p.m.

According to Jerry Milstead, project manager for the school’s construction, the committee has selected Barnes Butte, Golden Rim and Highland Rim as potential names.

Barnes Butte is a reference to the nearby butte, Golden Rim is the name of the ranch owned by the Hudspeths on the land being used for the school and Highland Rim is a reference to the view of the surrounding tabletop geologic formations as part of the Crooked River Caldera.

The second level interior pods are slated to be named Summit Prairie, Grizzly Mountain and Lookout Mountain, and the four lower pods would be called Crooked River, Ochoco Creek, McKay Creek and Beaver Creek.

Milstead hopes that the school board will make a final decision at the April meeting.

“From where I sit, I hope we can get this done so that we can finish up with the design,” he said.
