Prineville man files false shooting fatality report
A Prineville man was arrested for misuse of 911 and aggravated theft after calling in a false report of a shooting death Sunday evening.
At approximately 6:07 p.m., Crook County sheriff's deputies, Prineville police officers, and the Oregon State Police all responded to a report of a person being shot and killed on Northwest Grimes Road just north of Prineville.
Authorities determined Mark Collins, age 61, called 911 from 2858 Grimes Road and reported the shooting. The report was determined to be false after an extensive search of the area.
The Crook County Sheriff's Office had probable cause to arrest Collins on aggravated theft of a skid-steer and theft one of a flatbed trailer. These charges stemmed from a prior ongoing investigation.
Collins was charged Sunday with first-degree aggravated theft, first-degree theft, misuse of 911 and initiating a false report.
