Local resident Dustin Collins reportedly stole a backpack from a victim and stabbed them in the hand

PHOTO COURTESY OF PRINEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT - Dustin CollinsPrineville police arrested a Prineville man Wednesday who reportedly stole someone's back and stabbed them in the hand earlier that morning.

At about 3:20 a.m., Prineville Police Department and the Crook County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stabbing near Northwest 10th and Main streets. A 24-year-old Prineville resident reported Dustin Collins, age 22, of Prineville, exited a vehicle, and during a confrontation stabbed him in the hand. The victim reported Collins stole his backpack and fled the area north on Main Street. An unknown female, possibly in her 20s, drove off with the suspect.

The victim received a small stab wound, declined medical transport for the injury and was taken to the hospital in a personally owned vehicle.

The Prineville Police Department was initially seeking the public's help in identifying the female and locating the suspect, but around 12 p.m. Wednesday, Collins contacted the Prineville Police Department in order to cooperate with this ongoing investigation. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Crook County Jail.

The female driver mentioned in the previous announcement was located and identified.

Collins was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and second-degree theft.
