Three dead in Sunday night Millican Road crash
Three people were killed, including a small child, Sunday night on George Millican Road.
On March 18 shortly before 8 p.m., Crook County Sheriff's Deputies and Oregon State Police were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash at Southeast George Millican Road near milepost 17 with people trapped inside the vehicle.
The victims were the driver, Joshua Steven Saddler, 29, and passengers Mary Beth Gonsalves, 35, and Gaberiel Saddler, the 2-year-old son of Joshua Saddler, all of Prineville.
According to a news release from Sheriff John Gautney, when deputies and troopers arrived on the scene, they located a Les Schwab semi-truck and trailers that were headed southbound on Millican Road. There was a passenger car that was trapped underneath of the semi-truck.
"We were able to confirm at that time there were two persons in the passenger car that were deceased. Deputies later confirmed there was a third person in the car that was also deceased; a small child who had been in the backseat in a child safety seat," Gautney stated.
Deputies were able to get a local tow company with a heavy haul wrecker to lift the truck off the passenger car and remove the car from underneath.
The preliminary investigation indicates the passenger car was northbound on Millican Road and was attempting to negotiate a curve when the driver lost control of the vehicle ending up in a sideways skid and struck the front of the truck. The roadway at this location at the time of the crash was wet due to rain. The driver of the truck was not physically injured and is cooperating with the investigation, Gautney reported.
Millican Road was closed for several hours south of Southeast Reservoir Road while deputies completed the investigation.
Crook County Sheriff's Office was assisted in the investigation by the Oregon State Police, Crook County Fire and Rescue, Les Schwab Tires, Crook County Road Department, ODOT, and SMAF Environmental.
