The Crook County High School Jazz Choir is once again delivering Val-o-grams

The 15-member strong Crook County High School Jazz Choir hit the streets of Prineville today spreading the love and, hopefully, collecting a few dollars.

Singing songs like “Lucky,” “Kiss the Girl,” “Marry You,” “Everything,” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” the singers visited upwards of 50 objects of someone’s devotion, delivering their custom version of a Val-o-gram.

Those enlisting the choir’s singing services had the option of including a red rose or a chocolate bar, making the gram that much sweeter.

The singers were raising money to attend this year’s Heritage Festival in Anaheim, Calif.

“We will perform in front of a panel of adjudicators,” said Choir Director Hannah Moorman, “And receive a ranking and a plaque.”

The trip takes place April 10 through 14.

Having raised $4,000 so far, hotel costs and festival entrant fees, which include a Disney day pass, are paid for. The choir is now hoping to raise another $2,000 to pay for transportation and meal costs.

Raising money is a never-ending task for the singers. Upcoming events include a “Disney Dinner and Dessert,” to be held at the Elks Lodge on March 8.

“We will be presenting a concert of Disney music,” said Moorman, “It will help to get us in the spirit for the festival.”

Lovers of Krispy Kreme should pay attention. This spring, the choir will be peddling the tasty donuts as well.

Moorman wants residents to know they are always available to, as she says, “sing for their supper.”

“We are available for performances, birthday parties and other activities,” she said. “Give us a call.”

As for getting to Disney, Moorman isn’t concerned, as plans call for taking a school bus for the 16-hour drive.

“I went to school down there,” she said, referring to Southern California. “I know the roads very well.”

And, maybe, if you’re the recipient of one of the choir’s lyrical Val-o-grams, consider doing what Bruno Mars, in the song “Marry You,” suggests.

“It's a beautiful night, we’re looking for something dumb to do, Hey baby I think I wanna marry you.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!
