Crook County Fair to host Prineville Perk this week

Mid Oregon Credit Union accepting donations of school supplies for local students

It’s all about the Crook County Fair “Country Pride, County Wide” this week, with something for all ages to enjoy. From the looks of their ad on page A10 of today’s Central Oregonian, there will be plenty of food and entertainment throughout the four day event. While this week has been busy for the fair board, volunteers, vendors, and kids getting their 4-H animals and projects ready, the fair does not officially open until Wednesday at 5 to 10 p.m., kicked off with the Greg Merritt Community Scholarship Barbecue. It will be open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Make plans to attend, enjoy yourself, and support the local youth at this year’s county fair. For more information, see sidebar below.

The Crook County Foundation’s Picnic in the Park concert series will be held at the Crook County Fair this Wednesday, Aug. 6. This week’s entertainment will be The Diamonds, “1950s American Bandstand Tribute,” they will perform from 6 to 8 p.m.

Prineville Perk will be held at the Crook County Fairgrounds on Friday, Aug. 8, located at 1280 S. Main St, from 8 to 8:30 a.m. For more information on Prineville Perk, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 541-447-6304. The Chamber is looking for businesses to host the weekly gathering. If you would like to have active Chamber members come to your business, have coffee, and learn what your business has to offer, give Kandice a call to get assigned a Friday that is convenient for you.

The Annual Central Oregon Great Giveaway will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at three local churches. If you have items of clean quality clothing that others can use, your donation of these items will help families get ready for the upcoming school year. Donation drop off will be Thursday, Aug. 14 and Friday, Aug. 15 from 12 to 8 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 333 S.W. Idlewood St. You can call 541-350-5788 or 541-788-7484 with questions or to volunteer.

Mid Oregon Credit Union is collecting needed school supplies for students in Crook County. The “Supplies 4 Schools” drive will run through the month of August. This year’s “Supplies 4 Schools” will assure that children who can’t afford needed and required school supplies will have a sense of belonging and readiness on their first day of school.

Supplies will stay in the same community in which they are collected. Community members may drop off donated school supplies at the Prineville Mid Oregon Credit Union location, in front of Bi-Mart. All donations will be delivered directly to the Crook County School District. For more information about “Supplies 4 Schools” call 541-382-1795.
