Three vocal ensembles from Crook County High School competed at the Central Oregon District Small Ensemble Festival on Feb. 11, at Mountain View High School in Bend, and all three groups took first place in their respective divisions.
The choir students qualified to represent Central Oregon at the State Chamber Music Festival on Friday, April 28 at Pacific University in Forest Grove.
"This is the first time that we have sent groups to this festival, and this is a high honor to have all three groups place first and qualify for state," said CCHS and CCMS Choir Director Hannah Moorman.
Three small ensembles qualified for state, comprised of 10 students in all high school grades. A couple students sang in more than one small ensemble.
The three included a soprano, alto, tenor, bass quartet in the Mixed Small Ensemble; a soprano, soprano II and alto trio in the Women's Small Ensemble; and seven women in the Women's Large Ensemble.
Students from six high schools competed, including Bend, Summit, Mt. View, Ridgeview, Madras and Crook County.
The groups receive a score on a scale of 100. All three CCHS ensembles earned record-high scores for CCHS. Two groups scored 92, and the women's trio scored a perfect 100.
"This is an outstanding accomplishment for our school," Moorman said. "We would love to have community support at the State Festival and invite people to attend the performance if they are able."
