Ray Fahlgren builds Baldwin Storage, offering 28 units in Baldwin Industrial Park

HOLLY SCHOLZ/CENTRAL OREGONIAN
 - Ray Fahlgren opened Baldwin Storage, a new mini storage business, in the Baldwin Industrial Park.

You could say storage is in his blood.

Ray Fahlgren, who has owned Advanced Cabinetry in Prineville for 21 years, has expanded his storage offerings from kitchen and office cabinets to storage units.

"I'm selling out on my cabinet shop this year, so this gives me something to do," Fahlgren said.

In September, he opened Baldwin Storage in the Baldwin Industrial Park at the top of the grade, offering 28 units in two sizes — 10 feet by 10 feet and 10 feet by 15 feet.

"I had commercial real estate up here by my cabinet shop, and I wanted to utilize it, so I figured what the heck, we'll give it a try. There's no storage facilities like this up here in our industrial park," Fahlgren pointed out. "A lot of facilities are full downtown, and the need seems to continue to be there."

Folks often utilize mini storage units when moving, decluttering, downsizing or handling a loved one's estate.

Fahlgren was the general contractor on the building construction but used a customer, Ray Hayes, to perform the work. Agee Ironworks designed and built the sign, Greg Hill Excavating did the excavation work, and ABC Fence Company installed the fence and gates.

The units have 9-foot ceilings, and all units have 8 feet by 7 feet roll-up doors.

The brand new facility features security cameras, a full fenced area, and electric gates. Renters have seven-day-a-week access from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Plus, the workers at neighboring Advanced Cabinetry keep an eye on things at the storage unit.

"The biggest thing people look for is security," Fahlgren said. "Being new and clean is always nice."

Baldwin Storage offers some new customer specials, including a free month's rent with five consecutive months.

He wanted the name of his new venture to be easy and recognizable, so he settled on Baldwin Storage, after the name of the Baldwin Industrial Park.

Fahlgren has built cabinets, homes, and now — storage units.

"I've always been a builder," he said.
