Terrebonnes Shane Erickson repats as all-around winner

Erickson placed in team roping, cow milking, and tie-down roping at the NPRA?finals to wrap up the all-around title.

Stevie Rae Willis of Terrebonne won the women's all-around title while her sister Sammy Jo Cardoza finished second.

Erickson won the first go round of cow milking with a time of 20.80, then came back to take second in the second go round with a time of 20.50. His combined time of 41.30 easily won the average in the event. Erickson also won the second go round of tie-down roping with a time of 9.00 seconds and along with roping partner Brent Falon of Yakima, Wash. tied for fourth in the round in team roping with a time of 6.40.

Erickson was not the only Central Oregon athlete to come up big at this year’s NPRA?Finals which were held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21 at the Crook County Fairgrounds in Prineville.

Redmond’s Brian Bain took first in both go rounds of bareback riding. Bain posted a score of 81 on day one, then came back with an 87 on day two to win the average with a score of 168. Kyle Bounds of Harrisburg finished second both days, which was good enough to win the year around title in the event.

In saddle bronc riding, Barker finished fourth in the first go round of saddle bronc riding with a score of 76. He came back to win the second go round with a score of 81. The two-day total of 158 was good enough for second place in the average. Cooper Dewitt of Rio Rico, Texas won the first go round and edged Barker for the average with a score of 159. Paulina’s Kade McLean also had a solid performance in saddle bronc riding. McLean failed to place in the first go round of the event with a score of 72. However, he came back to finish third in the second go round with a score of 76 which was good enough to vault him to a third-place finish in the average.

Two other Prineville athletes also cashed in the rodeo.

Christian Radabaugh finished third in the second go round of cow milking with a time of 22.20. Radabaugh also finished fourth in the round in steer wrestling with a time of 18.00. Heeler, Cully Stafford and team roping partner Jack Fischer of Ellensburg, Wash. finished tied for fourth in the second go round with a time of 6.40 seconds.

Other Central Oregon athletes to cash in the event included Sam Willis (steer wrestling). C.R. Wilken (team roping), Russell Cardoza (team roping, tie-down roping), Stevie Rae Willis (barrel racing), and Sammy Jo Cardoza (barrel racing).

Average winners at this year’s finals included Cindy Woods of Newberg (barrel racing), Bailey Cline of Roseburg (breakaway roping), Jace Catlin of Toledo (bull riding), Travis Taruscio of Stanfield (steer wrestling) and Clayton Hansen of Pendelton and Garrett Jess of Coulee City, Wash. (team roping).
