The Paulina elementary and middle school volleyball team recently took second place at a tournament in Dayville.
The team, made up of eight girls in grades four through eight, opened their season on Oct. 10, with a jamboree at Mitchell. The Paulina team came away from the jamboree undefeated, knocking off teams from Dayville, Fossil, and a combined team from Mitchell and Spary. Then on Oct. 19, the team competed in the Dayville tournament, finishing in second place. Paulina won their pool, defeating Prairie City in the final match of pool play.
Once in bracket play, Prairie City went on to win the tournament, while Paulina defeated Fossil for second. It is the first athletic trophy earned by Paulina since the spring of 2005. Team members include eighth graders Reata Youngblood and Lacy Camara, seventh graders Margarita Carrillos and Vidahlia Baca, sixth graders Alyson Thomas, Stormie Camara and Yesenia Carrillos and fourth grader Taelor Hammock.
