Eagle/Loggers fall to Grizzlies 33-25


Gilchrist makes late run to defeat Mitchell/Spray

Leading 27-25 with four minutes left in the contest, the Gilchrist Grizzlies went on a late tear to knock off the Mitchell/Spray Eagle/Loggers 33-25 in non-league girls basketball action.

Both teams looked tight in the game’s opening quarter as they played to a 3-3 tie. Ordway led the Eagle/Loggers in scoring with eight points.

Gilchrist outscored Mitchell/Spray 13-9 in the third quarter to lead 22-17 going into the final period. The Grizzlies extended their lead to 27-17 before Mitchell/Spray made a late run. The Eagle/Loggers closed to within a basket at 27-25 with four minutes remaining in the contest. However, that was as close as they would get as Gilchrist scored the game’s final six points.

Dori Ordway led the Eagle/Loggers in scoring with eight, while Cheyanne Collins added five. Gilchrist was led by Cassandra Blum with 14 points and Sierra Shuey added 13.

With the victory, Gilchrist is now 1-2 on the year while Mitchell/Spray falls to 0-6. Mitchell/Spray is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 2, when they travel to Portland to take on Dufur in the first round of the three-day 1A Hoops Classic.
