Mountain View takes control from the opening tip in blow-out victory

Friday night, a sparse crowd at Crook County High School saw one of the worst blowouts in Central Oregon basketball history.

The Mountain View Cougars were in control throughout the contest as they mauled the Cowboys 87-20 in Intermountain Hybrid boys basketball LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN - Seth Kessi attempts to go up for a shot against the Mountain View Cougars on Friday. Kessi scored eight points to lead the Cowboys in scoring.

“They are a really good team,” said Crook County Head Coach Darin Kessi. “There are times when we play harder than other teams, but tonight they outplayed us. Not only were they better than us, they brought a better effort, they were more physical, and they brought a tougher effort.”

The Cougars led 21-5 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 43-13 by the end of the first half. The Cowboys scored just two points in the third quarter, and at one point went more than 10 minutes without a field goal as the Cougars cruised to the easy win.

Despite the lopsided victory, it could have been much worse. The Cougars played 15 players, and did not have a single player in double figures in the contest. Cade Catell led Mountain View in scoring with nine, while Davis Holly, Nick Hjelm, and Noah Cheney each scored eight and Ments Haugen, Quinn Corrigan, and Kaimi Kurzynowski added seven points apiece.

Seth Kessi led the Cowboys with eight points.

With the win the fifth-ranked Cougars move to 6-2 on the season while the Cowboys fall to 2-8.

Crook County is back in action tonight when they host the 4-5 Bend Lava Bears in a 7 p.m. contest.
