Five Ridgeview players score in double figures as Ravens earn easy win over Crook County

The Ridgeview Ravens exploded for a school record 96 points as they overwhelmed Crook County 96-56 Tuesday in Special District I boys basketball.

The Cowboys played without Head Coach Darin Kessi and starter Seth Kessi who were both sick. However, it probably wouldn't have made a difference. Five Ravens scored in double figures as Ridgeview shot 66 percent from the floor in the rout on their home floor.

Ridgeview led 24-12 at the end of one period and extended their lead to 51-26 by the end of the first half. The Ravens continued their offensive onslaught in the second half, outscoring the Cowboys 45-30 in the half.

Blake Bartels led the Cowboys in scoring with 17 points while Nate Jones was also in double figures with 13 points.

George Mendazona hit four 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead the Ravens. Mendazona also had six assists and six steals in the contest. Jack Bowman added 19 points for the Ravens as Carson Manselle added 15 and Justin Alvarez and Taner O’Neal scored 10 points apiece.

With the loss the Cowboys fell to 2-11 overall and 0-1 in Special District I play while the Ravens moved their record to 1-0 in the district and 6-7 overall.

The loss is a major setback for the Cowboys. Crook County is mired in 39th in the latest power rankings. After Tuesday’s loss their only chance to earn a play-in contest is to win the remaining two contests against Rigeview. Meanwhile, the Ravens have moved to 23rd in the power rankings and look like a lock to earn a play-in contest.

Crook County is back in action tonight, traveling to Bend to take on the Summit Storm in a 7 p.m. contest.
