Pickhardt, Mozingo named to all-state baseball team
Two members of the Crook County High School baseball team were recently selected to the OSAA Class 4A Baseball All-State Team.
Heath Pickhardt, a junior catcher, was named to the all-state second-team, while senior Keenan Mozingo received honorable mention recognition.
Not only was Pickhardt a great defensive catcher, he also had an outstanding year at the plate.
The junior had a batting average of .508 for the season and hit an even more impressive .522 during the league season. Pickhardt had an on-base percentage of .585 and a slugging percentage of .652. He finished the year with seven doubles, six in league play, as well as a triple. He also had 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Pickhardt walked 12 times during the year while striking out just 10 times.
"I was pleased that we had two players on the team," Crook County head coach Frank Martinez said. "Heath has worked very hard for that. He's in there every day working hard. When we are not practicing, he's there on the weekend hitting or practicing or doing something all the time."
Although his batting average was not as high as Pickhardt's, Mozingo still had an outstanding season. The right fielder finished the year with a .349 batting average and a .426 on-base percentage.
"Keenan was one of the team's leaders this year and deserved the recognition he earned," Martinez said.
Mozingo finished the year with six doubles, two triples, nine RBIs and 24 runs scored.
In addition, the speedster stole 16 bases.
The Cowboys finished the year in fourth place in the Tri-Valley Conference with a 7-8 league record and a 10-14 overall mark.
G.T. Blackman, a junior from the state champion La Grande Tigers, and Austin Gerding, a senior from Philomath, were named co-players of the year.
La Grande's Parker McKinley was named coach of the year.
Sam Blankenship, a senior infielder from Estacada, was the lone Tri-Valley Conference player named to the all-state first team.
Pitcher Andy Avants and first baseman Levi Albrecht, both seniors from Estacada, were named to the all-state second team.
Also receiving recognition from the Tri-Valley Conference were infielder Aaron Alexander, a senior from Molalla, who was selected to the third team, along with fellow senior Logan Saltares, of Gladstone.
Outfielders Lane Sittner and Damon Alvara of Estacada and Gladstone, respectively, were named both named honorable mention, as was Tyler Lockey, a utility player from Madras.
