The Riverhawks forced the Cowgirls into 46 turnovers as they raced to an easy 64-19 victory over Crook County. The Dalles Riverhawks came out to play Wednesday night, and the Crook County Cowgirls were unable to match their intensity as The Dalles rolled to a 64-19 non-conference win.

The host Riverhawks exploded for 31 first-quarter points as they rolled out to a 31-6 lead at the end of one period.

Although The Dalles didn't score as many points in the second quarter, their pressure defense blanked the Cowgirls as the Riverhawks extended their lead to 42-6 at the break.

With their starters off the floor, the Riverhawks eased up in the second half, but still outscored the Cowgirls 22-13 in the third and fourth quarters combined as they coasted to the easy win.

The Cowgirls were led by Sarah Connolly, who finished with six points. Liz Barker added four, while Odessa Tramel-Green finished with three. McKinzee Mode and Gracie Kasberger each scored two points, while Kennedy Buckner and Emma Ackley each added a point as the Cowgirls shot just 19 percent from the floor and made only three of 14 free throws.

Meanwhile, five Riverhawks scored in double figures, led by Jodi Thomasian with 13. Jenna Miller and Bailey LeBreton each finished with 12 points, while Kilee Hoylman and Paulina Finn pitched in with 11 points apiece.

The one bright spot for the Cowgirls was rebounding, as Crook County outrebounded The Dalles 43 to 35. Ackley led the Cowgirls on the boards with eight, while Tramel-Green pulled down seven, Barker six, and Dallas Hutchins five.

Finn led the Riverhawks with nine rebounds.

However, the Riverhawk defense forced the Cowgirls into 46 turnovers compared to just 21 for The Dalles. In addition, the Riverhawks were able to hit on 33 percent of their shots from the floor as they hit on 25 of 74 attempts.

With the victory, The Dalles improves to 5-7 on the season, while Crook County falls to 4-10.

The Cowgirls have a week off before starting the league season at home on Wednesday, Jan. 17, when they host the 3-10 Estacada Rangers, who have won just one of their last seven games. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
