Cowgirls finish third at Iron Maiden golf tournament
The Crook County High School girls golf team has spent most of the early part of the season working on their short game.
That strategy paid off on Thursday as the Cowgirls finished third at the Iron Maiden golf tournament.
The event, which is played on the Eagle Crest Challenge Course, forces golfers to play with just irons and a putter, putting a premium on the short game.
Although the Cowgirls were not in contention for the team title, they showed improvement from the opening tournament of the year, as all five Cowgirls saw significant improvement in their scores.
Macy Goehring led the way for the Cowgirls with an 85 on the par 63 course, good for eighth place overall.
She was followed by Jayln Smith with a score of 91, good for 12th place. Next in for the Cowgirls was Sammi Todd, finishing 14th with a round of 96. She was followed by Vickie Bates, 99, and Asia Layne, 114.
Summit's Olivia Loberg took medalist honors with a one-under-par 62.
However, it was Bend Senior High that came away with the team title.
The Lava Bears used their team depth to place all five of their golfers in the top seven, garnering a team total of 301. Summit was second with a score of 330, while the Cowgirls finished in third place with a score of 371. Ridgeview rounded out the field with a team total of 398.
Following Thursday's tournament the Cowgirls are off until Friday, April 6, when they play the Eagle Crest Ridge Course in a noon tee time.
