LON AUSTIN/CENTRAL OREGONIAN
 - Hogan Smith watches after hitting his tee shot on a par three hole at Meadow Lakes Golf Course on Monday. Smith posted a round of 88 at the tournament, the best of his high school career. The Crook County Cowboys shot their second-lowest score of the year on Monday at Meadow Lakes, posting a score of 374 to finish eighth out of 10 teams at their home invitational.

Despite the eighth-place finish, the Cowboys played steady golf, defeating both other Class 4A schools in the competition.

Summit easily won the tournament, posting a team score of 309. Bend finished second, 326, while Ridgeview was third, 345. Pendleton placed fourth, 345, followed by Mountain View, 363, Redmond, 369, The Dalles, 371, Crook County, Molalla, 375, and Sisters, 426.

The tournament was the third and final round of the Central Oregon Classic, which is designed to determine the best high school boys golfer in Central Oregon.

Summit's William Fleck placed second in the Monday tournament with a two under par round of 70, but that was good enough to give him the Central Oregon Classic title, with a 54-hole total of 212.

Isaac Buerger, of Ridgeview, who won the Meadow Lakes Invitational with a sizzling round of 67, finished second in the classic, five shots back with a total of 217.

Crook County's Brodie Kuizenga played steady golf in all three tournaments, finishing eighth overall in the Central Oregon Classic with a total of 268, while teammate Trenton Brinkley was ninth with a total score of 273.

Monday at Meadow Lakes, freshman Hogan Smith led the Cowboys, with the best round of his career, an 88. Kuizenga was close behind with a score of 89.

Rounding out the scoring for Crook County were Brinkley, 98, Cayden Lowenbach, 99, and Addison Peer, 101.

The Cowboys played their final regular season tournament of the year on Thursday at Crosswater Golf Club.

The team then has less than a week to get ready before competing in the Special District 1 championships Monday and Tuesday, May 7 and 8 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks. The top two teams and top five individuals from next week's district tournament will compete the following week at the state tournament, which will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 14-15 at Eagle Crest in Redmond.
