Cowboys sixth at Crosswater
The Crook County Cowboys tuned up for the district tournament with one final round on Thursday at the Crosswater Classic Invitational Golf Tournament.
The event, played on the difficult Crosswater Golf Course, saw the Summit Storm roll to an easy win with an 18-hole team score of 299.
Bend High School was a distant second with a score of 325, while the Cowboys finished sixth in the eight-team tournament with a 394 total.
The Cowboys were led by sophomore Brodie Kuizenga, who finished 17th overall with a round of 90.
He was followed by freshman Hogan Smith and sophomore Trenton Brinkley, who both posted scores of 98.
The final Cowboy to count in the scoring was freshman Cayden Lowenbach, who finished with a score of 107.
Sophomore Tannon Joyner also played for the Cowboys, but did not factor into the team scoring.
Ridgeview's Isaac Buerger earned medalist honors, firing a one-over-par round of 73.
The Cowboys began the Special District 1 Championships on Monday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.
The tournament continues today with the top five individuals and the top three teams qualifying for the state tournament.
Scappoose, Valley Catholic and Seaside are the favorites to qualify for the state tournament, while Crook County, Molalla, Tillamook and Banks are all longshots.
Teams from Astoria, Banks, Corbett, Crook County, Gladstone, Molalla, Scappoose, Seaside, Tillamook and Valley Catholic were all expected to compete.
The state tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 14-15 at Eagle Crest's Ridge Course in Redmond.
