Teams from across northern Clackamas County shone Saturday, Dec 7, at Oregon City High School during category championships involving 28 schools from across Oregon invited to compete by the Dance and Drill Coaches Association of Oregon.

Clackamas High School’s Cavalettes got first-place finishes in the jazz and contemporary categories. Gladstone’s Gladettes earned a first-place trophy in hip-hop and a third in the kick category. Rex Putnam dancers wowed coaches for a novelty prize, and Milwaukie got third-place in contemporary.

Rex Putnam and Clackamas high school dance teams are the current state champions in their given divisions. Rex Putnam qualified three routines and Clackamas qualified two routines for last weekend’s competition. To qualify, teams needed at least second-place finishes or top 50 percent scores.

Teams now change routines and begin to prepare for the OSAA Dance & Drill State Championships to be held March 19-22 at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum.
