Could your business survive a disaster?

Forty percent of businesses affected by a disaster fail to reopen. Could yours survive?

The second of Milwaukie’s 2014 Emergency Preparedness Series sponsored by the Public Safety Advisory Committee aims to prevent the 25 percent of businesses that usually fail within one year of a disaster. Ninety percent fail within two years according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

To prepare for the inevitable disaster, business owners can attend “Business Ready,” a free overview from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. A free follow-up workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12, also in the Milwaukie Public Safety Building Community Room, 3200 S.E. Harrison St.

Justin Ross, a Portland-area business emergency-planning specialist, will speak with local business owners about continuity and insurance planning. Business emergency-preparedness experts Carol Bruneau and Lou Bruneau, instructors at Portland Community College, will be on hand to aid workshop attendees in beginning their plans for resource management and business continuity.
