Philip Yates, lifelong gardener and owner of the Singer Hill Cafe in historic Oregon City, is offering free one-hour seminars on vertical gardening.

You can choose between three Sunday sessions from 3 to 4 p.m. May 25, June 29 or Sept. 28 in the Art Garden at Singer Hill Cafe, 623 Seventh St.

Yates, who has been building vertical gardens since the spring of 2009, now can show off 1,500 square feet of these gardens inside and outside his cafe.

For those ready for a do-it-yourself project, Yates will cover how to build and maintain vertical gardens. Each seminar will cover construction and installation processes, plants, drainage and upkeep, followed by a question-and-answer session.
