Clackamas Fire crews extinguish stubborn fire

Clackamas Fire investigators completed their investigation Monday and identified a broken light bulb to have been the cause of the early Saturday morning fire at the K.B. Recycling Center in Clackamas.

Photo Credit: PHOTO COURTESY: CLACKAMAS FIRE - Fire investigators work to conduct interviews and identify the cause and extent of damage of this fire.After conducting interviews with staff and reviewing surveillance footage, firefighter spokesman Brandon Paxton said it was clear that a light bulb in the warehouse suddenly burst, showering a pile of recycling material with sparks causing it to ignite. Damage to the contents of the structure are estimated at $200,000. Paxton cautioned, however, that the building will have to undergo a thorough review by an engineer prior to identifying the monetary loss exactly.

Fire crews warned the public about a large amount of smoke in the area of Highway 212 and 82nd Drive due to a fire at a recycling center Saturday.

Firefighters worked the scene at the recycling center nearly all day and had to use heavy equipment to pull out smoldering trash to extinguish this fire.
