'Free Car Seat Check' event is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at 320 Warner Milne Road

If you are a new parent, expecting parent or grandparent, the Oregon City Police Department will teach you how to properly install a child car seat.

The department's first "Free Car Seat Check" is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in the OCPD parking lot, 320 Warner Milne Road, Oregon City.

"Be prepared to learn, not just watch the technician install the car seat," said OCPD's Community Outreach Coordinator Chris Wadsworth. "They are trained to teach you."

Wadsworth said it would be helpful for the training if participants install their car seats prior to arrival at the event, and bring their car-seat instructions and vehicle owner's manual.

"Know your child's weight and height," Wadsorth said. "If possible, also bring another adult to help watch the child while you are learning."

This check-up is a first-come, first-served event. Each car seat check takes about 30 minutes to complete; multiple seats require additional time.
