Clackamas County Sheriff's Office alcohol stings seek to prevent abuse
The Vibrant Future Coalition is collaborating with the Oregon Liquor and Control Commission (OLCC), the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) and Clackamas County to reduce alcohol availability to youth in our communities.
These agencies are conducting stings on March 8 and 15. CCSO cadets meet at 3 p.m. at the sheriff's office North Station, 12800 S.E. 82nd Ave., and will serve as underage "decoys," entering retail establishments and attempting to purchase alcohol.
The decoys will be accompanied by OLCC and law enforcement staff who will issue criminal citations to vendors who sell alcohol. Responsible sellers who do not sell to minors will receive a "congratulatory" letter and sticker to place predominately in their business as a way of saying "thank you."
The Vibrant Future Coalition is committed to reducing substance abuse in the North Clackamas area. Harry Apelbaum, coalition coordinator, said, "Collaborative programs like this work to keep our communities safe by reducing youth access to alcohol. This is especially important during spring break, graduation and prom season where use among teens could be higher."
