Stehn Family Chapel is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a community open house with refreshments from 1 to 4 p.m. on May 11. A Chamber after-hours event will begin with a 4 p.m. blessing from Rev. Jorge Hernandez from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, followed by entertainment from the Milwaukie High School Pony Pipers until 6 p.m.
Robert Stehn, along with his wife, Sandy, have owned and operated the funeral home since 1977, moving to Milwaukie with their three children, Julie Dowhaniuk, Mark Stehn and Tammy Steffens.The founders became involved with their community, such as Milwaukie Masonic Lodge, Milwaukie Elks Lodge, Al Kader Shriners, Order of the Eastern Star, Job's Daughters and various other community groups and events, and have encouraged all their staff to be similarly involved.
Mark Stehn, a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1987, has represented the family business as a member of the Clackamas Rotary Club. He serves on the Providence Milwaukie Foundation Board, the Celebrate Milwaukie Board and has been appointed by the governor to serve on the Oregon State Medical Examiners Board.
