Driver speeds off from traffic stop, crashes, dies
A traffic stop turned deadly near Gladstone when a driver tried to flee from police Saturday evening.
The driver identified as Troy Wayne Hargrave, 58, of Milwaukie. No officers were injured.
According to the Gladstone Police Department, the incident began around 9:45 p.m. when officers were called about a suspected drunk driver in Meldrum Bar Park in Gladstone. The driver was reportedly trying to pull over other drivers with his car.
Officers pulled the driver over near Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and Glen Echo Avenue and began to talk with him. But, police say, he took off in his car. Officers followed the driver for a short time before he veered off the road and crashed off River Road, just outside Gladstone city limits.
The driver died on the scene. As of March 20, Gladstone police were still waiting on blood-alcohol results to come back. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office also has reports associated with this incident.
