by: JOHN DENNY - Tim BowmanTim Bowman, head football coach at La Salle Prep since 2010, was relieved of his coaching and teaching responsibilities last week.

“Tim Bowman is no longer employed as a teacher or coach,” said La Salle athletic director Glenn Elliott.

Elliott would not disclose the reason that Bowman was let go.

Elliott said that Jim Hellyer replaced Bowman as interim head coach on Oct. 23, and Mikel Rathman was filling in in the weightroom and teaching Bowman’s physical education classes. Hellyer has been the offensive line coach at La Salle.

La Salle’s football teams were successful under Bowman, until this year. La Salle’s varsity football teams have gone 30-13 in Bowman’s three-plus seasons at the helm.

La Salle went 6-4 in 2010; the Falcons went 14-0 and won the Class 4A state championship in 2011; and they went 8-3 and made the state quarterfinals last fall.

Two-time defending league champions in the Tri-Valley Conference, the Falcons had a league record of 1-3 and an overall record of 2-6 when Bowman was let go.
