Oregon City High School has hired Randy Nyquist as head football coach, replacing interim head coach/athletic director Bruce Reece.

Nyquist comes to Oregon City after 15 seasons as head coach at West Albany. Nyquist’s West Albany team upset Sherwood in the Oregon high school football Class 5A state final last fall.

With a total of 25 years of experience coaching high school football, Nyquist also coached at Class 3A Jefferson and Class 3A Toledo.

Nyquist was among 22 candidates who applied for the position.

“He’s experienced as a head coach,” said Reece. “And he’s done an outstanding job at West Albany, building what was a non-program when he got there into a perennial power.... Everyone I talk to has nice things to same about him.”

Reece said that Nyquist will be on staff as a health and physical education teacher.

Nyquist was scheduled to meet with players this afternoon and a meet-and-greet with the community is scheduled in the high school auditorium today at 6 p.m.
