The La Salle Falcons were in top form last week as they rallied around junior Loryn Williams to put two more softball games in the win column.
Williams was at her best on May 7 when she fanned 14 and walked no one, while yielding just one hit, in a 10-0 six-inning win over Madras. Five of Williams strikeouts came on called third strikes.
She has pretty good pop and she had really good control of her rise and change, La Salle coach Walt Stockfleth said of his ace.
A Madras batter hit a slow roller between Williams and La Salles second baseman with two down in the top of the third for Madras only hit and the White Buffaloes only baserunner.
Sophomore Nicole Schreiber (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and junior Makenzie Cook (3 runs scored) led La Salle at the plate, as the Falcons combined seven hits with six free passes to build their winning tally.
Williams (8 strikeouts, 2 walks, one hit batter) also pitched in a 12-1 win at Estacada on May 5, yielding just three hits in the six-inning game.
The Falcons brought their bats with them, as they punished the ball for no fewer than 16 hits.
Top sluggers were Cook (3-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 RBI), freshman Emily Goodman (3-for-5, triple, double, 2 runs), Schreiber (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Williams (2-for-3, 3 runs) and junior Shannon Stockfleth (2-for-3).
La Salle entered this the final week of the Tri-Valley Conference league season in third place in the TVC standings, trailing only Gladstone (19-1, 11-0) and North Marion (13-7, 8-3).
The Falcons battle Gladstone on the road this afternoon and they play host to Estacada on Friday (4-17, 1-10).
