Camp features 17-foot pole vaulter
Mustang Track Club hosts a Raising The Bar pole vault camp on July 12
Collegiate pole vault standout J.J. Juilfs will be the featured vaulter at a Mark Vanderville Raising The Bar pole vault camp, scheduled for Milwaukie high school from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
Renowned pole vault coach Mark Vanderville will be heading up the instruction.
Vanderville is a former vaulter and coach for the University of Oregon, where he coached five-time NCAA champion and Oregon school-record holder Tommy Skipper (19-0) and NCAA womens champion and Oregon school-record holder Becky Holliday (14-8).
Open to athletes of all ages and abilities, as well as to pole vault coaches, the camp is a fundraiser for the Mustang Track Club.
Juilfs, who was Pac 12 pole vault champion for the University of Washington as a freshman, has cleared 17-10-1/2. He won the USA Outdoor Track and Field Junior National Championship his senior year at Sheldon High School, clearing 17-2-3/4. He is one of only three vaulters in the history of Oregon high school track and field to have cleared 17 feet as a high school athlete.
The registration fee for the camp is $35 for individuals, or $50 for an athlete and their coach. Preregistration is encouraged, because enrollment in the camp will be limited. To register, phone 503-956-5625. Registration will also take place at 11 a.m. the day of the camp, space permitting.
All proceeds will go to the Mustang Track Club.
