Emil Hnidey has joined the Estacada City Council.

The council appointed Hnidey to fill the seat vacated by Jodi Scott, who resigned in November. Hnidey is a vehicle emission technician for the Department of Environmental Quality. Prior to his appointment, Hnidey served on the Estacada Planning Commission, infrastructure committee and budget committee.

He is an Estacada High School graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Portland State University.

Hnidey told the council on Monday, Jan. 13, that he has lived his whole life in the Estacada area and is raising two children with his wife here.

“I’ve stayed here not because I have to, but because I want to,” Hnidey said.

Hnidey told the council that in addition to an unsuccessful run for the Clackamas County Commissioner seat, he had tried for an appointment to the council before, and run for a council seat before. Third time was the charm, it seems.
