Estacada finishes second in the 12U/14U tournament at North Clackamas

by: ESTACADA NEWS: DAVID BALL - Estacadas Allison Hartman heads down the first-base line after making contact during Sundays semifinal win over Happy Valley.MILWAUKIE — Estacada’s 12U softball team finished second at a combined 12/14U bracket at the end-of-season tournament at North Clackamas Park last weekend.

The team won back-to-back games in the elimination bracket Sunday, reaching the championship round with a 13-6 win over Happy Valley.

The Rangers hit the five-run limit in the first two innings, capped by Rylie Canifax with an RBI-double through the middle for an early 10-4 lead.

On the defensive side, Tessa Riedel made a throw across the infield from third base to strand the tying run in scoring position in the first inning.

The Rangers shutout Happy Valley in the second inning and gave up only one run in the third. Riedel moved into the pitcher’s circle and put together back-to-back strikeouts before Lily Avants ended the third by fielding a ground ball near first base.

Estacada extended its lead to 13-5 with a two-out rally in the fourth inning that saw Riedel send a run-scoring bouncer past third base, and Sakura Yamamoto followed with an RBI-double.

The Rangers made quick work of Happy Valley in the bottom of the fourth, getting all three outs at home plate.

It started when Chloe Crist caught the lead runner floating off third base and catcher Canifax tagged her out before she could start a slide. Crist and Canifax combined for another hotbox play moments later.

The Rangers recorded the final out when Canifax chased down a pitch at the backstop and flipped to Riedel for the tag in a tight play at the plate.

Estacada was set to face Gladstone in the championship game, but heavy rainfall cancelled the tournament. The Rangers were awarded second place since they were the team coming out of the elimination bracket.

Other members of the team are Taylor Anderson, Ryann Curtis, Monique Long, Makenzie Marvel, Chealsey Steininger, Katherine Wilmot, Allison Hartman and Annaliese Wimsatt, along with head coach Corey Riedel.
