GLADSTONE — Estacada's 12U Junior American baseball team clinched a spot into the county tournament after closing out a big week with a 15-11 win over Gladstone last Thursday.

The Rangers broke the game open with a six-run burst in the second inning after Riley Hovda sent a lead-off single to center field. Payton Matney followed with his own shot to center field, and drew a hotbox between first and second base. The distraction allowed Hovda to slide home safely to score.

Cory James and James Durand each added RBI-singles before Waylon Riedel stepped to the plate and delivered the biggest hit of the rally — an RBI-triple that soared over the left fielder's head.

By the end of the inning, the Rangers were in charge 11-4.

Estacada clinched its spot into the county tournament by sweeping both Clackamas teams earlier in the week, including a 13-11 win over the first-place Stearns squad — it's only league loss of the summer.

Estacada finishes the regular season at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 6, against Milwaukie at North Clackamas Park.
