Week kicks off every year on Mother's Day. According to Barb Colter, Practice Administrator at Maple Street Clinic, "The goal of National Women's Health week is to encourage women to make their health a priority and to take steps to improve their overall health. Even small steps may have big payoffs down the road."
Even if you generally make healthy choices, there is probably some room for improvement. Some suggestions that Colter has to boost your overall health include:
Regular visits to your healthcare provider. This includes, at a minimum, a yearly well-woman exam with preventative screenings.
Be active, stay active…just keep moving.
Mental health is as important as physical health. Get enough sleep and learn how to manage stress.
Smoking, over consumption of alcohol, texting while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, are all examples of unhealthy behaviors. Pledge to improve on at least one of these behaviors this week.
